Revision

11 x 14 Oil on canvas

The first painting I did 0f this bouquet, (see below) was driving me crazy. It was really not supposed to be so tight and fussy, and I was compelled to do it over in a looser, more painterly way. So here are the comparisons, I hope the difference shows!

  1. hmm. I really like both - I love the vase in the fist one and even the detail on the flowers. The second is fun and more impressionistic and the background is lovely. Maybe you caught the light more on the second? If I had to choose one, I'd select the first one because I like the texture on the flowers. Great job on both!

  4. I like the warmer background and the darker values that give the second painting more depth. I know what you mean about driving you crazy. When a painting doesn't seem to work for me, I have to keep myself from throwing it out the window, or covering the whole thing in black paint.

  5. I like them both, too! The first one has more detail, but doesn't seem too tight. The second one is more loose and free, but they are both really nice!

  6. Mary Anne, they are both a TOTAL delight!! I love the variation of patterns and tonal control in the petals on both. Neither looks "tight," they look wonderfully playful and fun, fun, fun. Painting that many different flowers is a real challenge, but you make it look easy!!
