Fall Grass

6 x 6 Oil on masonite
to purchase: use etsy link in right column or go to buzzie2

This was a fun painting, I had done it in pastel, larger, for a juried show, and I didn't think I could pull it off in oils. Now I want to try some larger oils like this!

Nectar Search

6 x 6 Oil on masonite
Purchase info: etsy site Buzzie2 or use icon on right

These are some bees from our hive, we actually have two hives. This is our second year for having these and harvesting honey. It is such an interesting thing to experience, and not much work at all. The natural order they follow, along with their honey production is pretty amazing.
They will be closing up for the winter soon, and kickin the males out! Their usefulness is done for the season, bye bye drones! I have been wanting to try some paintings of these pretty little buzzers, it was fun and hope to try some other versions soon.

Now for something different. I have been doing some pastels for some shows I am entering, and I miss doing oils! So managed to sneak a few small oil paintings in. This was fun.

Marsh Grass

11 x 14 Pastel on paper

I have done this scene in a smaller format, but wanted to do a larger version for an entry in a show. I am happy with the result, I love these grass paintings for their negative space I get to work with.

Hosta

12 x 12 Oil on canvas board

I started this with the idea that it was going to be too much, so with no pressure I persevered.
I am happy with it, it was an interesting piece to do. I think I need to have a session with my son photographing, I feel all my pictures have been bad. He is technically good. I am not happy with my results, and can't even fix them in photoshop. I think I had better luck with my cheap little point and shoot!

Kennebunk Beach

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

I have returned to this scene more than once, I think many artists have a view and area that for some reason they keep going back to over and over.

The River House

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

I have been painting, just haven't had time for taking photos and posting, same old story! I am also in a Carol Marine workshop this weekend, really enjoying it and learning a lot! She is a great teacher as many of you know!! I am tired!

Southwest Harbor 2

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

The Acadia National Park area, has enough material to keep me busy forever, no wonder the Maine coast has been an attraction for so many famous artists and workshops over the years!

Southwest Harbor

11 x 14 Oil on canvas

I can't believe I finally photographed one recent painting, I have not been keeping up with my documenting. Too many things going on, some framing and delivering and still trying to keep up with summertime! This is from a visit to my son who is happily living and working (as a chef) in part of Mount Desert Island which makes up Acadia National Park, including, Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Any way you look at it, it is a beautiful and special part of Maine and the country!

Ovals

8 x 8 Oil on masonite

This is one of those paintings I said I would slowly move over from my oil blog to consolidate. An especially good time to do this since I have nothing to post, or I should say no photos of recent paintings to post. Summer is waning and we are all busy trying to fill each moment and it seems people are descending from all over for visits. We love it!

Spurwink Marsh

11 x 14 Pastel on paper (framed to 16 x 20)

This is another for a show I am doing, fooling with the photo is allowing me to get somewhat of a good image to post. I am surprised to get anything photographing under lights at night. Thank goodness for photoshop and the like!

Off Vinalhaven

11 x14 Oil on canvas board

This is too fussy for me, not quite loose enough, but it was too late once I realized it. They are good lessons to learn, we learn from the good and the bad (more from the bad, I think!)

Turbat's Creek 2

11 x 14 Oil on canvas board

This is a plein air I did this week, and was moderately happy with the result, considering it has been a while. It was a gloriously warm and sunny day in Cape Porpoise, part of Kennebunkport, and it was great to just be out with the island view, boats, and few people exploring. I had a bad time with this photo though, and have to retake it again. Off for a couple days relaxing before a big wet paint auction I am part of!

Revision

11 x 14 Oil on canvas

The first painting I did 0f this bouquet, (see below) was driving me crazy. It was really not supposed to be so tight and fussy, and I was compelled to do it over in a looser, more painterly way. So here are the comparisons, I hope the difference shows!
