This pastel is one from my website that I thought I would show on my blog. It is a little different than my usual style, but I like pushing the color and making it work. I am planning on doing some more in this manner.
This is a painting I did a while ago, experimenting with the different ways to hold and use the pastel. One of the inspiring things about pastel for me is the mark making and the endless possibilities of handling.
This is an abstract study I did a while ago. Fall is an easy time to go a little wild with color, and in the sun color can be mesmerizing at peak foliage.
I got a little too involved with mark making with this, and when I stepped back I was surprised to see how choppy it looked. Then I thought maybe it could work as an abstract. I'm not too sure about it!
I have now begun a separate oil blog, with the intention of keeping things a little more consistent. I hope you will visit my new site, and comment often. I look forward to painting and posting regularly and in the process learn to grow as an artist. Each painting is a new learning experience, and I find every step fulfilling!
This was a cool, windy fall day with blue sky and fluffy clouds. The colors in the sun were exaggerated. It changes rapidly here, now we are at the end of the colors with lots of browns and golds.
