Black, White and Blue

12 x 12 Oil on gessobord

I don't know what prompted this. It is one of those ideas that has been in my head, when I am out and about and forming paintings in my mind after looking at something. So, I thought I would try it. I don't know if it works, so give me your opinions. It is much more black and white than my computer is making it look, but I was also thinking of putting a background in, but not sure........ (the background is the white of the gessobord)

Another Island View

8 x 8 Oil on canvas board
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
This is a scene I go back to from time to time. It's interesting that it intrigues me enough that I want to paint it again. I see it as a fresh subject all over, and enjoy seeing the different results.

Apples and Vase

6 x 6 Oil on cradled board
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
I did a few small still life paintings along with the birds for my studio's holiday show.
The birds sold fast, and most still scenes sold after the birds flew the coop. I am looking forward to this holiday hubbub ending to get back to painting. I am going to continue with my birds and my recent abstracts, paining has been interrupted too long! A snow day tomorrow will allow me to start some sketches...... yeah!

Two Ibis

Two Florida Ibis on a telephone wire. They seem like such characters, there were many of them and they seem to be crabby with each other.

And now for something different! Known for my inconsistency, I am now doing a series of small subjects for a studio Holiday sale. It has been fun going back to this style after doing my more technical abstracts!

Marsh

9 x 12 Oil on cradled board    SOLD
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
Stylized, abstract of marsh scene. This is a little more on the realistic side compared to my recent abstracts, but I enjoyed dissecting and pushing the colors.

Casco Bay Sunset

8 x 8 Oil on gessobord
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
Another painting from my graphic/abstract series. I tried pushing the colors in this one. I am not very happy with the photo, I will have to reshoot it, I don't think this does it justice.

Island Reconstructed

8 x 10 Oil on gessobord
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
Another in my "deconstructed" abstracted series. I liked the sky and how it worked in this painting, the more I do and explore with this style, the more comfortable and happy I have been feeling.

Hosta In Vase

12 x 12 Oil on board
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
Another in my deconstructed series. Still experimenting and finding my stride in this new series, but I have endless ideas and not enough time to paint. This is a good exercise in slowing me down, a lot more planning and thinking about painting.

Deconstructed Grass

18 x 18 Oil on canvas
Another of my new abstract "Decontructed" series. I am not sure this is finished, I wasn't totally happy with paint application and need to redo a few spots. I am still trying different canvas options, also. I think this type of work will be better with gessobord, but am interested in exploring.

Abstract Poppies

11 x 14 Oil on linen panel   SOLD
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
This is a new direction I am exploring. Here is my first example, I am developing a theme of abstract paintings of subjects I am labeling, "deconstructed". To break down a subject, or dissect an image. I am excited with the possibilities, as I have been underwhelmed with my recent work. I was a graphic artist in college, so this is more in keeping with how I think and see art, in a more graphic way with strong, bolder shapes. My paintings are taking more consideration and longer painting periods. I am hoping for the best!!! More to come........

Schoodic View

11 x 14 Oil on linen panel  SOLD
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
This is a scene I have painted before, I have to say I like this better than the first and feel it is a valuable lesson for myself. It helps to see ways I have improved and made some changes for the better.

Pines and Wildflowers

8 x 8 oil on linen panel
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
This is from a field near my home that I frequently walk and have grown to love all the seasons there.
They hay it at the end of summer, but before they do there are wild iris in spring and wildflowers in the summer and fall. Along with many birds, including bluebirds.

Peaks Island Sunset

12 x 12 Oil on cradled board
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com
This is a palette knife painting of a late summer sunset on an island off of Portland, Maine. I am interested in exploring knife painting as of late. I find it appealing, but I have a lot to learn. Just another method of painting that keeps me from finding my style. I don't know what I will ever stick with, I will just remain the perpetual student!
