San Francisco Victorian

Different Strokes/San Francisco Victorian

This is my second attempt at Karin Jurick's weekly challenge. It certainly IS a challenge to venture into territory I normally would not go. A great exercise for me to test myself on. I wonder if she knows how valuable these lessons are turning out to be, it's like we're in an online workshop. Thanks Karin.

This is a botanical garden in Boothbay, Maine. Yes.......we really have a botanical garden here in the cold north. As a matter of fact, it's quite beautiful! It's been open a couple of years and each year it gets better, and more prolific. A lovely place to visit, in a beautiful New England town.

This is a pastel of a local golf course, I went on a tour with the groundskeeper/gardener. She is a young woman who has transformed these greens into colorful, beautifully landscaped gardens. I will paint some more of her masterpieces in the coming weeks, and post some more soon.

Still Life with Lime and Cherries

Lime and Cherries
8 x 8 Oil on masonite
Please email for price

This is another of my series of lime and cherries, I really like the color combinations of the fruit. Small cherries are still a challenge to me, but I will probably keep practicing on more. They don't last too long, so I get to eat them and they are healthy. That's the thing with still lifes with fruit, even if the painting doesn't work, you eat healthier.

I forget how much I like to do still life painting. I will upload a couple I just finished. Working this small in oils is fun, but I am not used to it yet. I hope to improve as all regular bloggers claim. Trying to paint every day is becoming addicting!!

This is a coastal marsh around the corner from my house. It changes all the time and is interesting in any weather. Sunny, misty or the middle of winter. It is a great place for viewing birds, and is a migration spot for some species.

Horse Whisperer

Cookie/aka Patch
8 x 8 Oil on board
NA

This horse is from another one of my farm photos. He/she was very interested in my presence.
As I spoke with him, I imagined that he was responding in his own way, hence the title. I asked someone about him, and they thought his name could be Cookie, I hope to find out for sure. I will give him his due honor when I do.

Summer Blues

Summer Blues
8 x 8 Oil on board
Private collection

Being new at this blogging business, I am still trying to get the feel of it all. I have been painting regularly, but find the most difficult part is taking the time to photograph the work and downloading it. I imagine it all comes a little more naturally after a while. It's cold and snowy, so I have been painting from some photos I have been dying to get to, I especially enjoy the ones that are reminders of warmer days. These hydrangeas were form my summer garden.

"Got Lemons? Make Lemonade"

Lemons
5 x 5 Oil on canvas
Please email for price

As I sit here on my first day, I wonder what the next step is in making my blog "cutting edge" if you will.   Do I go Paypal or eBay?   Probably trivial, but if you have an opinion or experience using them to sell your artwork, let me know!!!   I am hoping to be up and running with one or the other by next week.   By the way I wish it was summer because then I could actually drink cold lemonade and sit in the sun instead of battling the epic cold.

"Marsh Reflection"

Marsh Reflection
5 x 5 Pastel

This is a small painting that I did for a local juried art show.   The pond scene is part of an Audubon preserve in Falmouth, Maine that offers many interesting landscapes to focus on.

Welcome to my blog.   This is the very first post and I will be adding much more as 2009 pushes on.   Everything that I post on this site will be composed in acrylic, oil or pastel and a majority of it will be available for purchase.   As things get rolling, I will be doing daily compositions and all will be posted for you to view.   Hopefully you enjoy them and I am always looking for feedback so don't be afraid to email me.

Cheers,
Mary Anne Cary
