Apple Pile

8 x 8 Oil on canvas board

I must say, I haven't been the best about posting regularly. Lately, I seem to be caught up in too many other things and have been neglecting my painting time. I will have to change that, because, unfortunately I can't add more hours to my day! (Although, I wish I could!) Hopefully, I will be back on track asap!

Horse Paintings

Matted size 20 x 24
acrylic on watercolor paper

matted size 16 x 20
acrylic on watercolor paper

These are works of art, painted by horses at a Mustang Rescue I volunteer at. We spent an afternoon having the horses try their artistic talents out for a fundraiser. We put some paper down, mixed some acrylics and added that to the watercolor paper, and then I placed a piece of mylar on top of that. We then put grain, carrots and apples on that surface and had the artist perform. When the horse feasted on this he/she moved the paint around and unknowingly created their masterpieces! I will post a few more, and leave them up for a few days to see if anyone is interested in purchasing a piece for this worthy cause. (These horses are the lucky few, 36, to be spared) There are several of these rescues around the country, run by dedicated animal activists, but as you can imagine, they are extremely expensive to run. So, if any of you out there are interested in making a bid, just email me, and you will have a horse masterpiece, in time for the holidays!!

A Cherished Life

12 x 12 Oil on gessobord
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com

This is another one brought over from my old blog. I really enjoyed painting this mysteriously interesting sculpture. She is in a local cemetery, a reminder of the Victorian era when memorials were meant to be great works of art, rendered by talented artisans, many from Europe. This was a snow covered winter day, and when I got home and downloaded the digital pictures, I could see her eyes are blue, and her lips are red. Very intriguing, but left me with a lot of questions.......

In Search of Home #3

16 x 20 Oil on wrapped canvas

This is the third and final for the "In Search of Home" series. It is an island home, on an island off of Portland. A bit different from the first 2 I did, but this home had a feeling of coziness as I walked by on a cool, foggy day. A lot of the homes on this island are old cottages, with a nostalgia to a past time, in contrast to all the new building that goes up. There remains a charm here, when visiting, we could give our kids five dollars in the morning and not see them until late in the day! Safe, fun and a little old fashioned.

In Search of Home #2

14 x 18 Oil on linen board

This is the second entry to the show "In Search of Home". This is a view that Wyeth painted from in the Olson House, from the well known Christina Olson. I did a pastel workshop there a year ago, and was so excited to tour the house. I really felt transported, and the feeling was really warm. It was one of the few times in my life where I really felt the energy of past occupants, and it was good energy. I think there was a lot of love going on in that house. A great place, if you are ever in the area, to make a planned visit. It is in a beautiful location, and has a lot of history. For any Mainers reading this, the show is going on now at Heartwood College of Art. Check it out!

In Search of Home

11 x 14 Oil on masonite

This is one of three paintings I am doing for a show with the title "In Search of Home". It can be any aspect of what a home means or looks like to us. It can be a glimpse of a room, some architecture or occupants, etc. This to me, is a comforting look at home. Dogs, resting in the sun within their safety zone, watching the world thru the window, happy, well fed and peaceful in their surroundings. (Daring anyone to come to the door!) To me, a home is a place where a pet or two shares the space adding to the love and chaos.......
I will post the other entrants in a week, I am off on vacation! Happy painting to all, I will miss painting, but will plan many in my head for when I return in a week!

Grass Tangle

8 x 8 Oil on gessobord

This is another grass oil painting, that is not as successful as my previous one, but I still like it. I like these grasses with all their interesting negative shapes and patterns, and it becomes a little involved painting them, I am sure I lose my objective view! I still want to do more!

Through the Birches

9 x 12 Oil on gessobord

This is a painting I did a while ago and am moving from my old oil blog site. I eventually will move all those posts over and close it down. This is appropriate for the time of year, it actually looks like this today, gray, almost leafless and a little dismal! Look forward to sunny days ahead!
