An especially good time to do this since I have nothing to post, or I should say no photos of recent paintings to post. Summer is waning and we are all busy trying to fill each moment and it seems people are descending from all over for visits. We love it!

This is another for a show I am doing, fooling with the photo is allowing me to get somewhat of a good image to post. I am surprised to get anything photographing under lights at night. Thank goodness for photoshop and the like!

I just finished a wet paint auction I co-chaired this past weekend and there were over 300 people there. It was a huge success, with wonderful weather and motivated buyers, I even met my first fellow blogger in person. This was a view from the estate where the event was held. I photographed it and painted at home. I was asked to hang some paintings in a space at a local college, so exhausted but willingly I prepared some things in 2 days and this was one. Unfortunately, I had to frame everything quickly, and was trying to take photos at nite, so they are not the best quality or depiction of the work. I thought I better use them since I am low on material. I was satisfied with the pieces, these photos will have to do!

This is too fussy for me, not quite loose enough, but it was too late once I realized it. They are good lessons to learn, we learn from the good and the bad (more from the bad, I think!)

This is a plein air I did this week, and was moderately happy with the result, considering it has been a while. It was a gloriously warm and sunny day in Cape Porpoise, part of Kennebunkport, and it was great to just be out with the island view, boats, and few people exploring. I had a bad time with this photo though, and have to retake it again. Off for a couple days relaxing before a big wet paint auction I am part of!

The first painting I did 0f this bouquet, (see below) was driving me crazy. It was really not supposed to be so tight and fussy, and I was compelled to do it over in a looser, more painterly way. So here are the comparisons, I hope the difference shows!

I think I will rework this shadow, I don't love the color. I like certain parts of this, but I meant to have it much looser, you know how that goes! All a learning process, I guess.

This was an attempt to stay loose and painterly, not 100% there, but getting there. I've always had trouble with rocks, but I think the quick brush strokes worked for them.

We have a row of these mixed trees lining our driveway, and when they are in bloom you can smell them for days. They are so fragrant, and beautiful. Every year we say the same thing, "if only they could last all summer"! I will have to post a picture of the trees in bloom, so you can all get a glimpse. They are definitely one of the best part of our spring. I hated to cut a few small branches for a vase, but now we can look at them all year long.

This is an oil I just posted on my "Oil Blog", but thought I would post it here too, as an experiment. The problem with having 2 blogs, and having one come later, is the #2 (oil) doesn't get as much attention. I still feel I need 2, since my pastel and oils seem to be so different. So, let me know if anyone has a better idea, or is mixing them up a good thing? I tend to think it is better to keep styles separate.

These are works in pastel. I wanted to do loose figures with loose strokes like everyone always talks about with oils. It was fun and a good learning experience. I like the results, of course the real practice that I really didn't care about, # 1, is the one I like best. No pressure, always works! Can you tell she is on rocks? Tell me what you think!!

As always, I will mat and frame pastels for sales.

This was a fun one to do, I love the pinks and blue sky. I even took a bud from the tree and put it next to me as I painted. I fear for these blooms though, we had early warm weather prompting growth, and now the forecast is for cold. I am done with cold, and so are the flowers!
