Marsh Grass

11 x 14 Pastel on paper

I have done this scene in a smaller format, but wanted to do a larger version for an entry in a show. I am happy with the result, I love these grass paintings for their negative space I get to work with.

Golf Path 1

7 x 9 Pastel on paper

This is the first of 2 little studies I have done from a local golf course. It is a beautiul spot year round, and even tho it is private, it allows walkers and x-country skiers in the winter. I hope to do a larger of these.

Flower Path

11 x 14 Pastel on paper (framed size 16 x 20)
sold

I did an oil painting of this scene a while ago, and just redid it in pastel for a show I entered. It is from a local flower farm, and a favorite of mine. We had a bonus day here today, low 80's and lots of sun. Just one day like this, so we savor them when they come. Tomorrow, back down in the 60's, these flower gardens are fading, but the colored leaves will take their place!

Summer Blues

8 x 8 Oil on canvas board

I don't think I can ever get tired of these colors. They make me happy, I am always drawn to them. I think I was born in the wrong part of the world, I would like to be around this setting year round.

3 Chicks

8 x 8 Oil on canvas board  SOLD

A fun painting to do, everyone should paint chickens, or at least take pictures of them, they are so entertaining.

High Season

11 x 14 Pastel on Paper (framed size 16 x 20)

This is a scene that will be repeated here, maybe a little too much. I get hung up on some views, so I have painted this in different mediums and different sizes lately. So, hopefully you will find it worthy also, and not be too bored with it as is pops up now and again! I guess I can say, it is good practice to try a particular scene more than once, the only thing is, I haven't varied it enough to do some comparisons....

Hosta

12 x 12 Oil on canvas board

I started this with the idea that it was going to be too much, so with no pressure I persevered.
I am happy with it, it was an interesting piece to do. I think I need to have a session with my son photographing, I feel all my pictures have been bad. He is technically good. I am not happy with my results, and can't even fix them in photoshop. I think I had better luck with my cheap little point and shoot!

Early Evening, Parsons Beach

10 x 10 Oil on canvas
sold

I will have to reshoot this photo, I just realized there is a lot of glare. This is painted with limited pallet that I learned about in a Carol Marine workshop, that, by the way, was awesome! Take one if you can!

Kennebunk Beach

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

I have returned to this scene more than once, I think many artists have a view and area that for some reason they keep going back to over and over.

The River House

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

I have been painting, just haven't had time for taking photos and posting, same old story! I am also in a Carol Marine workshop this weekend, really enjoying it and learning a lot! She is a great teacher as many of you know!! I am tired!

Southwest Harbor 2

10 x 10 Oil on canvas

The Acadia National Park area, has enough material to keep me busy forever, no wonder the Maine coast has been an attraction for so many famous artists and workshops over the years!

Southwest Harbor

11 x 14 Oil on canvas

I can't believe I finally photographed one recent painting, I have not been keeping up with my documenting. Too many things going on, some framing and delivering and still trying to keep up with summertime! This is from a visit to my son who is happily living and working (as a chef) in part of Mount Desert Island which makes up Acadia National Park, including, Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. Any way you look at it, it is a beautiful and special part of Maine and the country!

Ovals

8 x 8 Oil on masonite

This is one of those paintings I said I would slowly move over from my oil blog to consolidate. An especially good time to do this since I have nothing to post, or I should say no photos of recent paintings to post. Summer is waning and we are all busy trying to fill each moment and it seems people are descending from all over for visits. We love it!

Spurwink Marsh

11 x 14 Pastel on paper (framed to 16 x 20)

This is another for a show I am doing, fooling with the photo is allowing me to get somewhat of a good image to post. I am surprised to get anything photographing under lights at night. Thank goodness for photoshop and the like!

Garden View to Richmond Island

11 x 14 Pastel on paper
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com

I just finished a wet paint auction I co-chaired this past weekend and there were over 300 people there. It was a huge success, with wonderful weather and motivated buyers, I even met my first fellow blogger in person. This was a view from the estate where the event was held. I photographed it and painted at home. I was asked to hang some paintings in a space at a local college, so exhausted but willingly I prepared some things in 2 days and this was one. Unfortunately, I had to frame everything quickly, and was trying to take photos at nite, so they are not the best quality or depiction of the work. I thought I better use them since I am low on material. I was satisfied with the pieces, these photos will have to do!

Off Vinalhaven

11 x14 Oil on canvas board
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com

This is too fussy for me, not quite loose enough, but it was too late once I realized it. They are good lessons to learn, we learn from the good and the bad (more from the bad, I think!)

Turbat's Creek 2

11 x 14 Oil on canvas board

This is a plein air I did this week, and was moderately happy with the result, considering it has been a while. It was a gloriously warm and sunny day in Cape Porpoise, part of Kennebunkport, and it was great to just be out with the island view, boats, and few people exploring. I had a bad time with this photo though, and have to retake it again. Off for a couple days relaxing before a big wet paint auction I am part of!

Caribbean Day

11 x 14 Oil on canvas board

I am happy with this painting, one of those that clicked, but I wish the photo could show the brushwork a little better. Sometimes the photo just doesn't do it justice.

Revision

11 x 14 Oil on canvas

The first painting I did 0f this bouquet, (see below) was driving me crazy. It was really not supposed to be so tight and fussy, and I was compelled to do it over in a looser, more painterly way. So here are the comparisons, I hope the difference shows!

Bouquet 2

11 x 14 Oil on masonite
email: mcary1@maine.rr.com

I think I will rework this shadow, I don't love the color. I like certain parts of this, but I meant to have it much looser, you know how that goes! All a learning process, I guess.

Yellow Iris

8 x 10 Oil on masonite

Love painting these iris, I had to scour my neighborhood to find some yellow ones still blooming. Glad I found some, I am happy with this.

Bunch of Buoys

6 x 6 Oil on masonite

I am going to slowly move a few of my oils from my now stagnant oil blog. Some may have seen them, but I think most were not viewed. Maybe I will post a new and old together to get them posted if they haven't sold, that way they won't fade into oblivion!
