These are 2 studies I did of the Mangrove roots. I took photos kayaking one day, going in and out of the little passageways was so much fun, it feels so otherworldly and jungle like. They are interesting plants, I will continue to work some more on these. I think I was happier with less root showing, but got a little carried away. Simpler might be better in this case.

This is similar to the oil painting I did, but I wanted to try a pastel. I am in love with the Mangroves and the colors, there will be more paintings of these for sure.

Well, it's been a long time since I posted here. It has taken me a while to readjust after being gone for a month. I really had to catch up on daily things, but a funny thing happened, and I started to reevaluate my art and blog. While being away and not scrambling to produce and post, I decided I would rather take more time to think about what I am aiming for. I think I was caught up too much in making deadlines that didn't exist. So it's all about questioning my motive and goals, and for the time being, I am not going to try to produce in abundance. I feel my quality and direction was suffering. It's all a learning experience, and right now it feels good to slow down a bit, ( I may appear too slow, but I am working). I am still a blogger, but am a little scared to say it out loud, but I am not a Daily Painter. I feel shunned already, not really, I know a lot of people aren't either, but I am entering a new time.......... we will see where it leads!! Happy spring to all!!

Okay, another photo, this time from the mangroves on a day of kayaking. It's been getting very hard to do any artwork. I have one pastel sketch I will add soon, and have big plans to do some paintings this week. Until then, more exploring with guests and more photos!

Two Ibises

I find these birds, the Ibises to be not only beautiful, but also very comical. They have been roosting on these wires near the house I am in, and all I want to do is take pictures of them. They bob and primp and scuttle along the wires, and they eat cat food fed to them by a local. They appear to be like cartoon characters, so entertaining and fun to watch.

I have never painted a self portrait, so I thought this could take the place of one, for now at least. There was a reflective sculpture on the beach that consisted of several panels. The distortion and grainy clarity made for an interesting shot. (I did several) Fun to play around!

Outdoor sculptures

I made it to Key West, and I am enjoying it very much. I have been riding a bike and walking everywhere, seeing a million paintings to be painted in my mind. I have not done any artwork yet, but hope to get some accomplished, eventually. I have however, been viewing a lot of artwork every where, as these sculptures here outside. There is a whole array of these, keeping all us tourists amused and entertained. This was a play on Matisses' Dancers, very clever and very well done. When walking among these, with other people around it was hard to figure sometimes who was real and who was a statue.

I spent a day walking thru an outdoor art show, and have just seen more modern sculptures on a beach path. I will be posting more of these. My art blog is going to become a journal of sorts, it is a very lively colorful spot here, with great food and constant activity. I hope my creativity is stimulated with new vision. Hope you are all painting and keeping busy!!

I was going through some old photos, and after cropping this picture, I realized that I had to try these feathers. They looked incredible with all those black, graphic lines dividing each other.

Reeds

This was hard to capture the shadows from the reeds in the water. It was intriguing, because you couldn't tell where the reeds ended and the reflections started.

This was supposed to be a practice sketch, I wanted to try these pinks on a flower like this, and I did it really fast. I liked it enough to post it, sometimes these little no pressure ideas surprise me.

Another view of the same scene, I am a little worried about posting, I'm afraid my artwork time is limited these days. I am preparing to go to Florida for the month of March, so all my time is going into getting ready and organizing things here so they will run smoothly. I am nervous about leaving for so long, but am also very excited. It is a trial for the future to see where and how my husband and I will like to spend winters as he slows down his work schedule. I plan on bringing supplies with me, but I can already feel the frustration with the need to paint but not being able to. Somehow I will balance things I guess, hopefully be inspired by new environment and get to see a lot of new art in a different part of the country. I will try to be diligent!

This was for an event last summer in Kennebukport, I took a lot of pictures and this house has a name (which I do not remember), so I believe it is of some historic significance. It is right on the main road out to George Bush's house and it is a charmer, quaint and sweet as is all of Kennebunkport. I highly suggest a visit if you are in the area!!!

I named these dancing pears because of the background. It seems to have a lot of movement, making the pears shake and move to the beat. I am cleaning one of my many art spaces, and it pays! I uncovered this I did a while ago, and still like!!
